If you are like most women, you have struggled to shed those extra pounds after having baby. And even if you’ve been successful at getting the number down to a good place on the scale, your body just doesn’t look the same. You are probably softer in more areas than you’d like to be and your posture is more rounded and forward.

Do not fret, you are not alone.

Even though women have been having babies for thousands of years, it doesn’t mean that it is any easier on our bodies. In today’s fast paced world, pregnant women often work up until the day of delivery, trying to cram in as much as possible before taking maternity leave. Further dialing up the pressure, they then have the goal of returning to work within three months looking as if they never had a baby. This is not an easy task. After all, it took nine months to get that large, so it will probably take nine months to return to BBB (before baby body).

Ballet Bar for Post Partum Exercise

One of the best methods of exercise I have found that will return your body back to something you can be proud of is Ballet Bar. There are many different styles of Ballet Bar out there Pure Barre, Bar Method, and Barre 3 for starters.

Ballet Bar for Post PartumThe beauty of this exercise program is that it forces you to correct the posture that you developed during your pregnancy. See the image at the right. The line down the middle represents your plumb line and ideally your ears, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles should all align.

In pregnancy, the weight of the baby and stretching of the abdominal wall pulls your torso forward dramatically, and the rest of your body needs to compensate by shifting posteriorly so that you don’t topple forward.

Ballet Bar is an excellent method to correct this posture because each exercise realigns your body into the plumb line before you are asked to move an arm or leg. Sounds easy? Think again! You’ll be sweating just to lift your arm overhead with a two-pound weight !

Don’t Get Intimidated

We all have to start somewhere. If you are looking to trim your core, hips and thighs quickly, in addition to getting rid of the sore and stiff joints left over from your pregnancy, then Ballet Bar is the perfect choice for your post partum exercise routine. You will feel stronger, taller, and more energized which is precisely what new moms need (and lookin’ good won’t hurt either!)

Check with your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen to make sure it is right for you.
